Three remarks on anisotropic finite elements
Anisotropic meshes are characterized by elements with large or even asymptotically unbounded aspect ratio. Such meshes are known to be particularly effective for the resolution of directional features of the solution, like edge singularities and boundary layers.
In the talk we present an a posteriori error estimator for a discretization of an anisotropic diffusion model equation on such meshes. The results were obtained in joint work with Serge Nicaise.
The talk ends with remarks on alignment, on the maximal angle condition and on the formulation of interpolation results.
